A Comprehensive Collection of Football(Soccer) Resources
Soccer, known as football in many countries outside the United States, is the most popular sport in the world. In ancient times, it was played in Japan, China, Rome, Persia, and Greece, though the rules were somewhat different. The rules of modern soccer originated in England in 1863, when the Football Association was founded. The oldest association soccer competition, the English FA Cup, was held in 1871-72. Soon after, the game spread to other countries and more national soccer associations were formed. In 1904, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), soccer world's governing body, was founded in Paris. It’s the organizer for the most popular sporting event, the FIFA World Cup, which was first hosted in Uruguay, in 1930. With legends like Maradona, Pele, Cruyff, Beckenbauer, Di Stefano, and Best; plus major clubs like Real Madrid, Manchester United, AC Milan, Liverpool, and Barcelona, the “Beautiful Game” captured the hearts and imagination of millions of fans. Today, soccer is played and enjoyed in almost every corner of the world, from Alaska to Zimbabwe.
